Switch Lighting Introduces Brightest LED Replacement BulbSWITCH Unveils Next Generation LED A-Lamp at LIGHTFAIR
SWITCH infinia™ available in 40 and 60 watt-equivalent models this summer for under $20
PHILADELPHIA, PA, April 24, 2013 – SWITCH® Lighting, makers of the only family of liquid-cooled LED replacement A-Lamps, unveiled its latest breakthrough product, the SWITCH infinia, to a group of industry insiders at LIGHTFAIR yesterday. The SWITCH infinia is the company's newest LED A-Lamp, available in 40 and 60 watt-equivalent models, and will be released this summer at limited retail locations and commercial distribution with an average price to the end user of under $20.
"This is another example of technology innovation from SWITCH," said EC Sykes, CEO of SWITCH. "Our team is consistently recognized for developing cutting edge lighting products and now has developed the next generations of LED A-Lamps to serve the broader consumer and specialty commercial markets. Due to the LQD Cooling System, our unmatched thermal management technology, we’re able to offer our customers a more affordable alternative to the incandescent with no compromises to light quality."
The SWITCH infinia is designed to exactly replace the look and performance of traditional 40W and 60W incandescent A-Lamps, while saving up to 83% on energy costs. The SWITCH infinia will be available in warm and cool color temperatures (2700K and 5000K), will offer a full range of light distribution, and is covered by a 10 year residential and three year commercial warranty.
Like the rest of SWITCH's LED A-Lamps, the SWITCH infinia provides the same familiar glow of an incandescent A-Lamp, while using a fraction of the energy and lasting 25 times as long. The SWITCH infinia fits into standard light sockets, turns instantly on, and is dimmable. Unlike some LED replacement A-Lamps, it can be used in the same manner as any incandescent or compact fluorescent equivalent - in any orientation, any fixture, anywhere. The SWITCH infinia contains no hazardous chemicals, unlike the mercury found in CFLs.
The SWITCH infinia also uses the company's patented LQD Cooling System™ - - the most innovative and effective thermal management system on the market today. The LQD Cooling System is a blend of the company's overall electronic design and proprietary technologies: a coolant made of liquid silicone, and a patented, highly efficient and reliable electronic driver. SWITCH is up to 40% more effective at cooling LEDs than typical air-cooled LED A-Lamps.
SWITCH's full family of LED A-Lamps will be on display at booth #213 at this year's LIGHTFAIR in Philadelphia from April 23 – 25.

SWITCH Lighting Earns ENERGY STAR Certification for SWITCH60, SWITCH75
Utility rebates for award-winning LED bulbs now available nationwide
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 23, 2013 – SWITCH® Lighting, makers of the only liquid-cooled LED A- lamp, today announced their 60 and 75 watt-equivalents, the SWITCH60 and SWITCH75, have earned ENERGY STAR® certification. Customers who purchase the SWITCH60 and SWITCH75 will now be able to take advantage of the accompanying price rebates offered by utility companies in many markets across the country.
"Everyday home owners and commercial building customers alike recognize the ENERGY STAR brand as a statement of reliability, performance, and energy efficiency," said EC Sykes, Chief Executive Officer of SWITCH. "These products meet the ENERGY STAR certification Standard A-Lamp requirements required by utility companies for rebates. The products are omnidirectional and the first family of lamps in both clear and frosted versions. We're confident that our next generation of products will perform to the same standard."
Established in 1992, ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program which helps individuals and businesses save money and protect the climate through improved energy efficiency. ENERGY STAR certification is also one of the main requirements for products to qualify for utility rebates in LED lighting. There are currently over 100 utility companies in the U.S. supporting LED products with various levels of energy efficiency rebates.
SWITCH LED A-Lamps provide the same warm, familiar glow of an incandescent light bulb, while using up to 80% less energy and lasting 25 times as long. They fit into standard light sockets, are dimmable, and can be used in the same manner as any incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulb. Unlike many competitors, SWITCH bulbs can be used in any orientation, any fixture, and any location. SWITCH bulbs pose no environmental hazards and have no toxic ingredients (unlike the mercury found in CFLs).
SWITCH's family of LED A-Lamps use the company's patented LQD Cooling System™ - the most innovative and effective thermal management system on the market today. The LQD Cooling System is a blend of the company's overall electronic design and proprietary technologies: a coolant made of liquid silicone, and a patented, highly efficient and reliable electronic driver. SWITCH is up to 40% more effective at diffusing heat and cooling LEDs than typical air-cooled LED A-Lamps.
Rebates are widely available across the U.S., but prices vary depending on location. To learn more about the utility rebates available for SWITCH's ENERGY STAR certified bulbs, visit the interactive map on our website at http://switchlightingco.com/rebate.html.

100We and First 3-Way LED A-Lamp to begin shipping in May
SWITCH to present products at LIGHTFAIR International
SAN JOSE, Calif., April 16, 2013 – SWITCH® Lighting, makers of true LED replacement A-Lamps, today announced that their 100 watt and 3-way equivalents, the SWITCH100 and the first-of-a-kind SWITCH3-Way, will begin shipping in early May, following LIGHTFAIR® International. Both products will be on display along with the rest of SWITCH's award-winning product line at LIGHTFAIR in the Philadelphia Convention Center from April 23 – 25.
"We are thrilled to be back at LIGHTFAIR and to announce the expansion and availability of new LED lighting solutions to our customers," said EC Sykes, CEO of SWITCH Lighting. "With commercial and retail sales of all our current products well underway, SWITCH has evolved immensely as a company over the past year. I am proud of the team, and the innovative products that we are bringing to the market."
SWITCH holds a number of broad patents on the SWITCH3-Way and is the first LED A-Lamp that works in three-way lighting fixtures. For the first time in LED lighting, users can select different levels of lighting - low, medium, and high (300, 800, 1,100 lumens and in 30/60/75 watt-equivalents) - for different applications at the flip of a switch on a table or floor lamp. The three power settings give users control over the amount of light, ambiance, and energy used, with no changes in the warm color temperature.
The SWITCH100 will be among the first 100 watt-equivalent LED A-lamps available to commercial and consumer customers when it ships in May. It’s designed on a small A-21 form factor. With its 4000K color temperature and 1600 lumen output, the SWITCH100 provides the same level of performance as the now obsolete 100W incandescent A-Lamps, at a fraction of the energy consumption at 20 Watts.
SWITCH LED A-Lamps provide the same warm, familiar glow of an incandescent A-Lamp, while using up to 80% less energy and lasting 25 times as long. They fit into standard light sockets, are dimmable, and can be used in the same manner as any incandescent or compact fluorescent A-Lamp - in any orientation, any fixture, anywhere. SWITCH A-Lamps solve the challenge of providing energy efficient lighting solutions with no environmental hazards or no toxic ingredients.

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 29, 2013 – SWITCH® Lighting, makers of the only liquid-cooled LED replacement A-lamps in true 40W, 60W, and 75W equivalents, announced the appointment of EC Sykes as its CEO. Sykes is a seasoned technology executive with decades of experience transitioning startups and larger enterprise companies to their next phase of growth. SWITCH generated significant consumer and commercial demand by being the first manufacturer to announce a full line of LED A-lamps that serve as true replacements for conventional A-19 incandescents and CFLs. SWITCH A-lamps have the best thermal management in the industry due to their unique cooling technology, the LQD Cooling System™, which produces a warm, incandescent-quality light while consuming a fraction of the energy.

SWITCH Lighting Named Architectural SSL PIA Winner
SWITCH's 100 watt-equivalent recognized with prestigious Product Innovation Award
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 20, 2013 – SWITCH® Lighting, makers of the only liquid-cooled LED replacement A-lamps, today announced their 100 watt-equivalent, the SWITCH100, is a winner in the retrofit sources category in the 2013 Product Innovation Awards (PIA) by Architectural SSL Magazine.
"It's an honor to win this award because architectural lighting has always been very important to our designers and engineers," said Vice President of Marketing and National Accounts at SWITCH Lighting Gary Rosenfield. "The fact that our lamps can be used in any orientation and in any type of fixture distinguishes us from the competition. While architects and lighting design professionals have always appreciated the sleek industrial design and functionality of SWITCH, we feel this Product Innovation Award further validates our technology and position in the marketplace."
With the phase-out of the 100W incandescent lamp already in effect in the United States, the SWITCH100 will be one of the first 100 watt-equivalent LED A-lamps to hit the market. It is designed to provide the same warm glow of a 100W while using approximately 80% less energy for a lifespan of 25,000 hours. The SWITCH100's 1600 lumen output and radial flux is equal to any incandescent, and with full dimmability and the ability to work in any fixture anywhere—even upside down and outdoors—makes it a true no-compromise replacement for the obsolete 100W bulb.
Judged by design and product specialists in the architectural market and the staff of Architectural SSL, the Product Innovation Awards recognizes the most innovative LED and solid-state fixtures and luminaires in the lighting industry across 37 different categories. All finalists and winners will be included in a special awards issue published by Architectural SSL magazine in March 2013.
SWITCH's family of LED A-lamps use the company's patented LQD Cooling System™ – the most innovative and effective thermal management system on the market today. In addition, the SWITCH75 was a Consumer Electronics Show 2012 Innovations Honoree, was named by TIME Magazine as one of the 50 Best Inventions of 2011 and also received a silver rating in the prestigious Edison 2012 Awards.
"We pride ourselves on selling products that are on the forefront of technology and those that can help our customers save money -- SWITCH LED light bulbs will definitely help us accomplish both of these goals," said Russ Reynolds, Batteries Plus CEO. "Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are considered the best energy-saving lighting option, and SWITCH LED light bulbs are an exact replacement for old incandescent light bulbs. There's no compromise -- consumers can use them in any orientation -- fully enclosed and even recessed -- anywhere, to provide light indoors and outdoors. SWITCH LED light bulbs are also compatible with most standard dimmers," said Reynolds.
"As federal legislation mandating better energy-saving light bulbs continues to take effect -- gradually phasing out most incandescent light bulbs in the marketplace by 2014 -- consumers and businesses will be seeking an equivalent replacement light bulb. We're proud to offer our retail and business customers the best LED light bulb on the market," said Reynolds.
Batteries Plus, a longtime leader in the $30.7 billion U.S. battery replacement market (Source: Freedonia Research Study), added light bulbs to its offerings in 2010 and began providing expert lighting training to its store owners and staff when it became apparent that federal mandates would create huge demand for energy-efficient lighting. SWITCH CEO Reveals Best-Kept Secret in LED Lighting
Tracy Bilbrough Unveils LQD Cooling System at LED Show
Las Vegas, NV August 1, 2012 Tracy Bilbrough, CEO of SWITCH Lighting™, the first company to offer a full family of LED replacements to the incandescent A-Lamp, today revealed for the first time key details behind the company's core technology to a group of industry insiders during a speech at the LED Show. Bilbrough also introduced SWITCH's new LQD Cooling System™.
"We're proud to reveal the patented technology behind the LQD Cooling System," said Tracy Bilbrough, CEO of SWITCH. "We have brought our liquid silicone coolant and patented driver together under one technology to deliver the best thermal management solution on the market. We can't think of a better place to show exactly how it works than here at the LED Show," said Bilbrough.
SWITCH's advanced LQD Cooling System incorporates the company's two proprietary components – a unique coolant made of liquid silicone and a highly efficient and reliable driver – under one technology. Liquid silicone is commonly used across many industries for its superior thermal management qualities. It is an ingredient in certain food and cosmetic products, and is also used for cooling large machinery and power plant equipment. A completely safe, food-grade product, liquid silicone is electrically non-conductive, non-toxic, non-staining, and does not degrade LEDs.
The system works in sync to cool the LEDs and internal electrical components, using the bulb's entire surface to disperse heat. As a result, SWITCH LED A-Lamps offer the best in-class thermal management in the lighting industry, with up to 40% better performance than air-cooled LED lamps. SWITCH's superior thermal performance means SWITCH lamps can be used in any fixture, even fully enclosed or recessed, and in any orientation without compromising light output or life.

SWITCH Lighting Brings Liquid-Cooled LED Replacement
A-Lamps to the Hospitality Industry
LAS VEGAS, NV May 15, 2012 SWITCH Lighting, the first company to offer a full range of true LED replacements to incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), is receiving great feedback from hotels and restaurants about their highly-anticipated LED A-lamps. SWITCH is offering liquid-cooled LED A-lamps that can be used in any fixture, any orientation, anywhereindoors and out. The full line includes 40, 60, 75, and 100 watt-equivalents, with the latest addition of the first-ever 3-Way LED lamp. Named SWITCH3-Way, it’s a 25/50/75 watt-equivalent LED replacement A-Lamp. The full line is on display for the hospitality industry this week at HD Expo in Las Vegas.
The first SWITCH lamps were shipped to several hotel beta-sites in the United States last November, and are receiving positive feedback on their light qualitywhich matches the warm, room filling glow, and dimmability of an incandescent, with no drawbacks like the warm-up time and hazardous ingredients associated with CFLs.
“The Board feedback has been outstanding.” says Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch’s Chief Engineer. “The quality of light is probably having the biggest impactthere is absolutely no discernible difference between your LED lamps and a standard incandescent of similar lumens.”
SWITCH LED A-lamps work in the hospitality industry particularly well because they are beautifully designed and look as good off as they do on. This means they can be used in any style of fixtureopen or enclosed. The lamps are also UL rated for fully enclosed fixtures and damp use, making them appropriate for use in any location. The lamps last 25,000 hours and use 80% less energy than a standard incandescent lamp which could save hospitality properties thousands in energy and maintenance replacement costs.
“We understand the challenges many properties face with lighting,” said SWITCH CEO, Tracy Bilbrough. “That’s why we chose to test our lamps first in several top hotels in the United States. From the feedback we’ve received, they’ve exceeded expectations in terms of performance and payback period. We feel SWITCH offers the best A-lamp solution for the hospitality industry and are proud to be showing off our solution at HD Expo.”
In addition to the SWITCH3-Way, SWITCH is also introducing technology for a 220/240V driver. This will expand the full line of LED A-Lamps beyond U.S. borders to the international market. The 220/240V driver lamps are expected to be released in late 2012.
The SWITCH40, SWITCH60, SWITCH75 are shipping to limited commercial outlets next month; while the SWITCH100 and the SWITCH3-Way are shipping in August. SWITCH will be announcing the locations of those commercial distributors by July. These initial lamps will likely be priced between $40-60 from distribution, depending on the model.
SWITCH’s LED lamps will be on display at booth #6552 at the HD Expo in Las Vegas from May 15-17. SWITCH is also a recent winner of a Silver Edison Award in the category of Energy and Sustainability.

In addition to the 40, 60, and 75 watt-equivalent lamps in warm white 2700K, the SWITCH100 will also be on display after its launch for commercial channels was announced during the National Facilities Management and Technology Conference in March 2012. The SWITCH100 is the first true 100 watt-equivalent A-lamp with a 1600 lumen output and radial flux equal to any incandescent available to the market. With a color temperature of 4000K, it is ideally suited for functional areas which require bright, white light.
The first SWITCH lamps were shipped to several hotel beta-sites in the U.S. last November, and are receiving positive feedback. SWITCH's 40, 60, 75, and 100 watt-equivalent lamps will be available in the U.S. through commercial channels and limited commercial retail distribution this summer. SWITCH will be announcing the locations of commercial distributors within two months. These initial lamps will likely be priced between $40-60 from distribution, depending on the model.
SWITCH's LED lamps will be on display at booth #4748 at LIGHTFAIR in Las Vegas from May 9-11. SWITCH will also be an exhibitor at HD Expo in Las Vegas the following week in booth #6552. SWITCH is a recent winner of a Silver Edison Award in the "Smart System" category of Energy and Sustainability.

SWITCH Lighting is named a 2012 Silver Edison Award Winner
SWITCH75 Wins at NYC Ceremony for "Smart Systems" Category in Energy & Sustainability
April 27, 2012 CHICAGO, IL: SWITCH Lighting, the first company to launch a complete family of 40W to 100W equivalent LED light bulbs with real incandescent quality light, has announced that its SWITCH75 bulb was selected as a silver winner in the Smart Systems category at The Edison Awards. At the sold-out April 26th event in NYC, Tracy Bilbrough joined hundreds of senior executives from some of the world's most recognized companies to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of all of the 2012 Edison Award winners.
The SWITCH75 is the first true LED replacement for the incandescent light bulb that makes no compromise for energy-efficient, affordable lighting. The SWITCH75's unique driver and advanced liquid cooling system enables the same full glow as an incandescent bulb while using 80% less energy. It fits into standard light sockets and can be used in the same manner as any incandescent or compact fluorescent light bulb -- in any orientation, any fixture, and any location. And with it's stunning design, it looks as good off as it does on.
"This Edison silver award is especially meaningful to us because it's named after the inventor of the light bulb that we're building upon," said Tracy Bilbrough, CEO of SWITCH. "It took us a few years of trial and error -- the Edisonian approach -- to develop the product we have today, so this award seems especially fitting. Edison wrote the first chapter of the light bulb, and we're writing the next one."
"As the pace of innovation quickens and the 'race to next' becomes ever more competitive, it's increasingly important to take a moment out of our hectic lives to recognize excellence in innovation and greatness in the teams of innovators who make our future. We are honored to present SWITCH Lighting with an Edison Award as one of the leading innovators of today and tomorrow," says Thomas Stat, 2012 Edison Awards Steering Committee Chairman.
The ballot of nominees for the Edison Awards was judged by a panel of more than 3,000 leading business executives including past award winners, members of the Marketing Executives Networking Group (MENG), academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medical.

SWITCH Lighting Announces the SWITCH100 for Commercial Channel Distribution
SWITCH Lighting introduces the first true 100 watt-equivalent LED replacement lamp using neutral white LEDs from tier one component producers like Cree
March 13, 2012Baltimore, MD: SWITCH Lighting today announced the launch of the SWITCH100, an A series 100 watt-equivalent LED replacement lamp for select commercial channels. The SWITCH100 is the first true 100 watt-equivalent A lamp with 1600 lumen output and a radial flux as good as an incandescent available to the market. SWITCH Lighting was the first to announce a full family of wattage equivalents in LED replacement lamps that can be used in any fixture, any orientation, and anywhere—indoors and out.
The announcement comes at the start of the National Facilities Management and Technology Conference in Baltimore, where SWITCH Lighting is providing demonstrations of the SWITCH100 to facilities professionals from around the country. In addition to the SWITCH100, the company is also showcasing their other LED A lamps, including the SWITCH40, SWITCH60 and SWITCH75.
"We are very excited about starting to sell the SWITCH100 in the commercial channel," said SWITCH CEO Tracy Bilbrough. "There is a huge demand for a 100 watt-equivalent incandescent replacements, and SWITCH Lighting is ready to meet that need. We see the facility management end market as a terrific opportunity because of the significant energy and maintenance savings SWITCH bulbs provide."
SWITCH's LED A-series lamps are the only to use a liquid cooling technology. This unique cooling system is 40% more effective at cooling LEDs than other lamps, allowing the LEDs they use from Cree, among other top suppliers, to handle higher input power and be used in any lamp orientation or any fixture—even recessed or fully enclosed—while maintaining over 25,000 hours of full lumen output.
SWITCH100 is both innovative and groundbreaking in its technology and design. It is a true incandescent and CFL lamp replacement, with light quality and functionality that matches an incandescent bulb. Key features of the SWITCH100 include:
- Lifespan of at least 25,000 hours
- Uses 80% less energy than an incandescent bulb
- Uses 20 Watts of input power, and produces 1600 lumens
- Color temperature of 4100K, making it an ideal lamp for areas which require bright white light
- Can be used in any fixture, recessed or fully enclosed
- Can be used in any orientation, with no compromise to driver function or lumen output
- It is dimmable and turns on instantly

CHIEF ENGINEER AT SWITCH LIGHTING ANNOUNCES THE KEY TO LED BULB PERFORMANCE AT CONFERENCE
David Horn focuses on SWITCH's self-cooling solution during LEDs Conference
November 1, 2011 SAN JOSE, CA: David Horn, CTO of SWITCH Lighting, the first company with a true replacement to the incandescent light bulb, presented at LEDs 2011 Conference in San Diego on October 26th. His talk, “Improving LED Performance in High Lumen “A” Lamps,” focused on ways to improve upon the problems with LED bulbs currently on the market, such as issues with color, light distribution, orientation variance and temperature.
LEDs 2011: Bringing Light to Life was held at the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa from October 24-26, 2011 in San Diego, California. The conference covered the latest technology, applications and end uses, lighting design and luminaires, as well as market expectations and analysis of the LED and lighting sectors. This year, hundreds of lighting professionals gathered at the conference, which boasted a sold-out exhibition hall with presentations from some of the industry's top lighting companies, including Acuity, Cree, OSRAM, and Philips.
“This is a great opportunity for SWITCH to show our thought leadership as bulb designers,” said David Horn, Chief Technology Officer of SWITCH Lighting. “SWITCH has recognized thermal cooling as the limiter for LED bulb performance and has focused on adapting technology to create an LED bulb that looks attractive and achieves superior brightness and color quality. Since our thermal solution efficiently cools the LEDs, we can overcome several shortcomings of the LED bulbs currently available. Right now, we are the only ones with this technology.”
SWITCH has designed the only LED bulb with a self-cooling environment inside and a gorgeous industrial design outside and was the first manufacturer to announce a family of LED bulbs with 40, 60, 75 and 100 watt-equivalents. With its stunning design and energy-saving benefits, the bulbs have generated significant consumer and commercial demand. SWITCH bulbs turn on instantly, they can be used in any orientation, and deliver a warm, natural light just like conventional light bulbs but they last 20 times longer.
SWITCH bulbs are also inspired by Cradle to Cradle principles. All parts and components can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed so there is very little chance any part will end up in landfill.
David Horn joined SWITCH as CTO in 2009, bringing a diverse knowledge base and skill set in strategic business planning, execution of complex multi-disciplined projects and constructive team leadership. With 30 years of experience in high technology operations development and management, Horn has led all SWITCH activities from product research and development, to operations including management planning and preparations for R&D, testing, validation, contract manufacturing and ultimate product commercialization for the advanced LED lamp solution.
Prior to SWITCH, Horn held technology development and executive management positions at JDSU, Big Bear Networks, Harmonic Lightwave, SDL and XMR. He holds a MS in Applied Sciences from UC Davis/Lawrence Livermore Labs and a BS in Physics from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.

THE FIRST 100 WATT-EQUIVALENT LED BULB SHINES AT 2011 LIGHTFAIR
Switch Lighting unveils the first true 100 watt equivalent A19 LED replacement bulb to replace incandescent bulbs.
May 17, 2011 San Jose, CA: Switch Lighting, the only company with the closest alternative to incandescent-quality light, announced the first ever 100 watt-equivalent LED bulb. The bulb is being unveiled at the 2011 LIGHTFAIR International Trade Show in Philadelphia during May 17 19th. Using their “City of Light” technology, the bulb creates a self-cooling environment inside, allowing maximum brightness with fewer LEDs. This is the brightest LED replacement bulb available and Switch is the only company with this innovative technology.
“Nobody in the LED space can produce this incandescent-quality light. The brightest LED you can see on the shelf is a 60 watt-equivalent. We announced our 75 watt-equivalent last month, now we’re announcing the 100 watt equivalent,” said Boris Lipkin, CEO of Switch Lighting.
Switch will conduct live demonstrations of their 100W LED replacement bulb at their booth on the LIGHTFAIR trade show floor. They will also show their 75W and 60W equivalent bulbs. All of their bulbs offer incandescent quality light, are dimmable, and can be used in any direction.
“We will be showing a 100 watt equivalent A19 lamp that produces 1700 lumens in neutral whitethe same beautiful white color as halogen track lighting.” said Brett Sharenow, Switch Lighting’s Chief Strategy Officer. “We will offer a warm white version of the 100W equivalent bulb in mid- to late-2012.” added Sharenow.
The Switch bulb designs are inspired by the Cradle to Cradle principles. All parts and components can be reused, recycled, or reclaimed so there is very little chance any part will end up in landfill. Bill McDonough, co-author of Cradle to Cradle explains, “When the bulbs are returned, they could become part of a bicycle, or could be returned to the biosphere to become fertilizer.”
“With our unique self-cooling technology, we offer the most affordable, energy-efficient light bulb on the market that is nearly identical to the regular incandescent bulbs we’ve come to love.” says Brett Sharenow, Switch’s Chief Strategy Officer.

SWITCH LIGHTING INTRODUCES BRIGHTEST LED REPLACEMENT BULB
New company's self-cooling technology offers the best and brightest warm incandescent-quality light
April 19, 2011 San Jose, CA: Switch Lighting, the only company with the closest alternative to incandescent-quality light, announced today a brand new technology that produces the brightest warm light LED replacement bulb available. Using their “City of Light” technology, the bulb creates a self-cooling environment inside, allowing maximum brightness with fewer LEDs. With this technology, Switch Lighting is bringing to market the first true 75 watt equivalent warm white LED replacement bulb at an affordable price.
“The LED lighting market is being redefinedpeople want sustainable, energy-efficient light sources without a compromise in incandescent light quality or design,” says Boris Lipkin, CEO of Switch Lighting. “Switch bulbs can be used just like a regular bulbin all directions, in almost every light fixture and with most any dimmer,” added Mr. Lipkin.
Switch is designing their LED bulbs to meet Cradle to Cradle® principlescontinuously and cost-effectively recovering all materials from the used light bulbs and safely biodegrading or recycling them. “Components won’t necessarily be repurposed into another light bulb, but could be siphoned into the broader industrial cycle,” says William McDonough, who developed the Cradle to Cradle protocol with German chemist Michael Braungart. “The unique design of Switch bulbs signals the company’s intention to offer brilliant lighting as a service for humanity,” added McDonough.
Because of the unique cooling system, Switch light bulbs can be used in any orientation with no compromise to their 20,000 hour life (10-15 years). Based on a 75 watt-equivalent bulb used in a home for 5 hours a day, Switch has calculated energy savings of up to $140.00 per bulb over its lifetime. The Switch LED bulbs use 85% less energy than incandescent bulbs and unlike compact fluorescents, they do not contain mercury. The purchase price payback in energy cost savings is realized in about one year.
“With our unique self-cooling technology, we make the brightest warm white LED light bulb available. We offer the most affordable, energy-efficient light bulb on the market that is nearly identical to the regular incandescent bulbs we’ve come to love.” says Brett Sharenow, Switch’s Chief Strategy Officer.
With increased energy costs and governmental calls for energy saving measures, people are increasingly looking for solutions, but don’t want to give up aesthetics, including the instant-on and warm light of their regular bulbs. Switch’s “City of Light” offers the same look, feel and quality of light as an incandescent.
Switch Lighting is backed by VantagePoint Capital Partners, the leading global investor in energy innovation. Alan Salzman, CEO of VantagePoint Capital Partners says, "LEDs are about to revolutionize lighting and create an important new category of high-performing, clean lighting solutions. We are proud to be part of the significant contribution Switch is making into how energy is converted into light."
